Fun Concert

sunny 72 °F

Good Day!

Tim called about 10:00 am and asked if I would like to attend a concert with them. They learned of a mountain-top concert catering to kids scheduled for 1:00 pm. Of course, I said, "Sure". He had gone fly fishing at 0530 in a mountain stream near their hotel. Marie & the girls slept until after 0900 which is rare. The excitement of travel and the altitude really tires everyone.

We met at the gondola lift about noon to ride up the mountain. The view was spectacular along the way and at the top. The resort had set up a stage platform under a couple of tents for the performers. The audience sat on blankets on the grass, although us 'seniors' managed to find a spare chair to sit in. The band was a Grammy Award-winning group, called "The Okey Dokey Brothers" who sang Blue Grass music and involved the kids in their performance. The little ones (& some adults) sang and danced. There were 5 musicians in the group; a drummer, a fidler, a banjo player, a guitarist, and a bass player, with the brothers the vocalists, all very, very good. Normally, I am not a Blue Grass fan but this was a very skilled group of musicians so we all enjoyed listening to them. The facilities at the top were excellent with restrooms, food venue, etc.

It broke up about 2:00 pm so we decided to go back to our quarters for naps (at least me). I learned after that the girls went to the swimming pool. We planned to meet later in the afternoon at my campground then go to Breckenridge (about 3 miles away) to see that charming community and to find a place to eat dinner. There are dozens of choices there. I am so impressed at how well behaved my granddaughters are in social settings. At the table they say, "Thank you" to the servers, they don't create a mess while eating, and they are patient while the adults converse. Tim & Marie are raising young ladies, now only 8 & 4 yrs. old. After dinner (Marie & I both had bison burgers topped with green chili pepper sauce) we walked along the street to 'window shop' and stopped at a candy store. The girls picked out something special to take back to their room. By then it was 8:30 pm nearing bedtime for all, especially me!

Tomorrow's plans are to attend a "Wild West" dinner show at their resort, designed especially for kids. As I left them, Amelia said, "Grandpa be sure to wear your cowboy boots and cowboy hat when you come over for the Wild West show!". I laughed. It was a good day.
